Consulting Services

Four broad consulting services are generally requested:

Strategic Planning,
Managing and Implementing Change Initiatives,
Career Management, and
Performance Improvement.

For each one, there is a brief outline of the types of activities which may or may not be included in any particular project. Each project is unique. All consulting services are conducted from the perspective of a partnership arrangement. (See Process Consultant)

At the basis of all of the consulting services provided are the three questions posed by Peter Drucker (1991, "The New Productivity Challenge" Harvard Business Review, (69,6:p.72)

1. What is the task?

2. What are we trying to accomplish?

3. Why do it at all?

In addition, as a partner in the process of problem solving and strategy design, it is also necessary to define

1. The purpose of what we are doing.

2. How it relates to and supports overall business objectives.

3. How the results (solutions) will be measured.

4. What "benchmarks" constitute a return on your investment in the process.

The goal is to establish a process with tangible results that serves as a guide for organizational learning and successful implementation. To this end, projects are designed to gather the input of all those involved in the project and to facilitate the learning and expertise of the work units rather than "deliver" training to them.
